Vedic astrology, or Jyotish (meaning "science of light"), is a traditional system of astrology that originated in ancient India, deeply rooted in the Vedas, the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism. It is based on the belief that the positions and movements of celestial bodies—such as planets and stars—at the time of a person's birth can influence their life, character, and destiny. Unlike Western astrology, which uses the Tropical Zodiac, Vedic astrology primarily uses the Sidereal Zodiac, which accounts for the precession of the Earth's axis, and incorporates elements like the lunar nodal points (Rahu and Ketu) and a detailed system of divisional charts for more precise readings. Vedic astrology is often used not only for predicting events and understanding personality, but also for spiritual growth, finding auspicious times for important life events, and offering remedies to mitigate negative influences.
